I long for the old days

Recently a friend said that she missed the way that blogging used to be and that micro blogging was getting tiresome and people want to read more...or at least some of us do.

And that got me thinking....

I DEFINITELY miss the old days.

I miss Google Reader daily. I remember when I worked an office job and sat at a computer all day and I'd come in half an hour early to sit and catch up on all the blogs I followed. I loved just being able to scroll down and see everyone's posts without ads or frills or nonsense.

I miss the pointless awards and how excited we would get about them.

I miss linkups (though there is still an AMAZING monthly book linkup that I participate in when I remember and you should check it out.)

I miss the friends I made.

I miss funny quips and quotes and inside jokes that were formed.

I miss the stories.

That's what I really miss the most. I miss the stories. I miss how people told me about their lives in little narratives and snippets. Not such quick snaps that make you feel like a failure at life and that you are the only one that doesn't have it together....but actual tales from the deep. The hard parts of life, parenting, dieting, working, searching for love....the real stories behind people as they lived their lives.

I mean sure it wasn't perfect....but there also wasn't the pressure to BE perfect all the time. You didn't have to be "on" you set up your little blogging schedule and you showed up and told your little bit and hit publish. Instantly you were live and out in the void and people could see what you wrote. They could interact with you if they chose to and lots of times they would.

I realize this makes me sound like an old person idolizing the times gone by but whatever. It was just a better and simpler time of social media....and yes I miss it.

So maybe we should bring it back. Let's bring back actual blogging and real stories and real life....and maybe it'll be a combination of both...the old and the new....and it will be something even better.

Thursday Thoughts 8/11

1. I had an awesome confessions post for yesterday but then I couldn't find the picture I needed and thus never got it finished and in a fit of childish tantrum just decided to wait until next week since the post wasn't "perfect". Sometimes I am a brat.

2. I have been behind on emails and blogs all week and am spending the morning trying to get caught up on all of them. There were 50 linkups in the book linkup this week and I'm trying to work through them all. Still 50! How cool is that??

3. The changing of Doritos to "Fire Chips" is in full swing. Kyra keeps calling them that whenever we see them in stores and now other children are picking up on the trend. Someday I will see #Firechips on Twitter and will know that my kiddo started it.

4. My insomnia has been at an all time high this week. I haven't gotten to sleep before 4 am any time this week and Kyra is bright eyed and ready to go by 7am. I'm tired but yet sleep is still not forthcoming.

5. I have walked around my downtown area more this past month than I have ever in my life. Yes I've been playing Pokemon while walking but it has really been fun to see my little town change...even just over a few weeks. Apparently we have a Free Little Library here! Basically you take a book and leave a book. It's all honor system based and just really awesome!

Short and sweet thoughts today since I'm tired and also trying to get through all my emails and blog posts. Happy Thursday Everyone.

Thursday Thoughts/ Catching Up

1. First and foremost I need to share with you all this little bit. This is Arya and she is our new puppy! I had not planned on getting a puppy but when I went with my Mom to pick out a pup for her since hers passed so suddenly and somehow ended up coming home with one too....I'm still hazy on how that happened. However she is adorable and so sweet and now I can't imagine life without her.

2. This week has been a pain in the butt. On Sunday Robert's car decided to suddenly stop working. Of course it was on a Sunday so they were closed so we had to wait until Monday to get anything done with it.  Since we couldn't figure out what was wrong so we had to have it towed to the dealership. Thankfully it was just some sort of computer chip thing. Even though it was a small thing it still took two days to get done which was annoying but again thankfully it was covered under our warranty as was the tow so all in all I can't complain too much other than it was inconvenient.

3. Then on Tuesday afternoon our A/C went out. Since it is approximately a million degrees around here in the summer this was a HUGE problem. Also I don't handle the heat well....I'm actually pretty unpleasant to be around because I don't like feeling sweaty, sticky, humid or any such thing and I lose all patience when I'm hot. It was a miserable Tuesday night but they guy was supposed to be there in the morning. HAHAHAHAHA. NO. I waited around all day and at 4pm when Robert came home the house was boiling hot and the guy no where to be seen. So I packed up the pups and Kyra and left to seek refuge at my parents' house. Finally the guy did show up and now the A/C is working and I have it set to Antarctic freezing temperatures in here now.

4. As you may have noticed Blogging has taken a hit around here lately. Mostly this is due to trying to figure out what I want from this blog while I am also working on another project of my own. I am happy however that I was able to participate in the linkup yesterday and that I have managed to fit in reading/listening! I even managed to read a few of the books I already own in participation of Erin's Read Your Books Challenge

5. Pokemon Go. Yes I am playing. I played Pokemon when it first came out and this game has been like a blast from the past. I love the fact you have to get out there to play and have actually been walking around my hometown a lot more because of it. However I do believe that gamers need to be respectful while playing and remember...just because there is a Pokemon somewhere doesn't mean you should actually go catch it there. Remember that not everyone is into playing it and that some places are just off limits. (ie work, places of remembrance, memorials, WHILE DRIVING)
Caught this guy last night while finishing up my walk.

These have been my Thursday Thoughts.

Thursday Thoughts

1. Still flying by the seat of my pants with blogging this week. So if this is random, apologies.

2. My husband had to write a letter and he always has me check it over to make sure there aren't any glaring grammar issues or spelling issues. Well his boss sent him an email asking if he could be a Grammar Nazi on the letter and my husband kind of called me out on it like I didn't check it well enough. I was irritated and then the guy sent it back. It was completely restructured from a letter to a bullet point presentation type format....no grammar changes whatsoever. Husband was embarrassed and I just was like "Whatever, I'm not your secretary and my services are now withdrawn." #doityourdamnself

3. I have guests coming in this weekend for International Tabletop Day so that means I have to go to the dreaded Walmart. Hopefully I can get there super early and be home before noon.

4. When I saw that Ulta was having a sale on their Urban Decay lipsticks I immediately snatched up the coveted F-Bomb that Steph and Jana recommended! FYI the sale is still going on and the lipsticks are 50% off!

5. I still have to finish my Omaha recap post but my computer is running SO SLOW and it is probably due to the absolute overload of pictures.

Super short and simple today because I need to get it in gear if I am going to get to the store and back early!

Happy Thursday Everyone!

Thursday Thoughts

1. I have failed yet again at blogging this week. Partially this is because my computer sucks right now and is ridiculously slow and partially because I am not feeling particularly interesting this week. It is what it is.

2. While I haven't been blogging I have been reading blogs and now have a list of stolen borrowed posts that I want to post in the near future.

3. Barometric Headaches are the worst....and it is just rainy as all get out around here so my headaches only ease up...never actually go away.

4. I am actually really excited about possibly getting to go on a business trip with my husband next week. In Omaha....Nebraska.....for real. Why am I excited? Well they have a pretty awesome zoo there and the hotel will have a pool where I can take Kyra so it will feel just like a fancy vacation right? Yes I think so.

5. I finished two books in one day on Tuesday. Then I put one down to never be finished because I was bored with it and just couldn't give it any more time. After reading two REALLY good books I just couldn't force myself to put up with a boring one. #nobodygottimeforboringbooks

6. I actually had to force myself to not start reading any of the books I picked up from the library yesterday. It was 11pm and I knew that if I picked one up I would be up all night reading it.

7. Joke was on me though since I spent until 2AM looking at knitting patterns. #whatsupmyknittaz?

8. I went to the store yesterday and thought to myself (while shopping) I need flour. I should go and get it now. Guess what I forgot? Yep. Flour.

9. My aunt went to Hawaii for a few weeks and brought back snacks. I swiped these from my Mom's house. YUM.

10. Planet Comicon is going to make me go broke. SO MANY amazing guests are coming and I am going to have to start pinching all my pennies to be able to afford all the things I want. GINNY WEASLEY  is coming people!!!!

Please excuse me whilst I fangirl.

It's Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday. Thank the Gods.

Thursday Thoughts: Spring has Sprung

1. Kyra Loves Flowers. This picture is adorable.

2. So many flowers in bloom. My phone actually takes decent pictures in natural lighting....

3. With flowers in bloom that means allergies are in bloom too....

4. I forget how sweet our downtown area is in my hometown until I go wandering around it. I mean we have an old fashioned soda fountain.....where you can get chocolate ice cream sodas!

5. Michael's apparently has $2 grab bags. (If you follow ChaosnCocoa on Snapchat you've seen this madness) I grabbed five of them and then went back and got three more (that was all that was left)

6. Said grab bags had awesome spring/Easter stuff in them. I am set for next year!

7. This bunny was originally $49.99.....it was in one of the $2 bags with some Easter baskets. I love scores like that!

8. I was at the library yesterday. I had 2 books in from my hold list. This morning I get an email....12 books are in now. #obviouslyShowUsYourBooksweek #HappyNationalLibraryWeek

9. This is basically my life in my house now.

10. Super Awesome-Sauce News. My Bestie Amanda is coming in this weekend! Let the good times roll!

Happy Thursday Everyone.

Thursday Thoughts 2/25

1. This post is late because I was adulting this morning. Adulting is hard. However it was successful and many things that I was dreading have now been crossed off the to do list.

2. I HATE when my online account acts up and I have to call and talk to an automated system that also doesn't work and then have to talk to a person that I cannot understand. Seriously anxiety spikes every time.

3. The ridiculousness on my Facebook feed due to the election, Jessica Simpson, Charlize Theron prompted me to do a purge. I have never felt better.

4. I love when I get into reading again. My housework suffers but I love the feeling of reading a book and knowing I'm ready to jump into reading at least three more.

5. I made Chocolate Chip Cookies on Tuesday night for no other reason than I wanted to. It was awesome.

6. Planet Comic Con is stepping up this year and there are so many guests I want to see and so many cosplayers that I'm just jumping up and down every time I get an email about it. Seriously I don't know if I will make it to May!

7. I have been working behind the scenes on a separate Cosplay blog. I wanted to do a weekly thing on this one but since I had so many things I wanted to do it made more sense to start a new blog. I hope it goes well....I'm really pumped for it!

8. Kyra is starting to get into board games. (Not a surprise in this house.) And right now Connect 4 is a front runner. She doesn't really understand the rules but she has fun and begs us to play with her so really it's all worth it.

9. I NEED to try the new Starbucks take on Butterbeer. Seriously. Need.

10. Thank you to everyone who sent kind thoughts for my little dog Kiya. She is doing AWESOME and is nearly back to her old self. She hates the cone and wants it off but she still has another week before that happens. I'm just happy to see her tail wagging again and that her appetite is right back to normal!

Thursday Thoughts: I want More

More Fresh Food- Food that I have to cook and put together. Less food from boxes. Less processed junk and more of the things that make me feel good both inside and out.

More Me time- Self care is important. I tend to put myself last, like pretty much all mom's tend to do...but I still deserve time to myself and for myself. I deserve some things that are completely selfish and just about me. I need to take more time for myself and thereby decrease the amount of stress that I put on myself.

More Unplugged Time- This applies to Kyra as much as it does myself.  I admit that when I am working on blog posts or writing or just surfing Pinterest that she is often on the iPad watching YouTube Kids. We need to decrease our screen time for both of us and spend more time together reading and singing and being present.

More laughing- I make no secret of how hard these past weeks have been for me. I have cried so much that I honestly feel as though I could have filled oceans, but life continues on and I want to remember to laugh at the silly things and remember all the good that there is in life. There is so much to be grateful for and I don't want to miss it!

More Mindful- This goes hand in hand with being grateful and actually goes with another post that I am working on for next week. I want to be a part of the things that I am doing. Even if it is simply sitting and watching a movie with Kyra, I want to be there and in that moment with her. As an introvert I spend a lot of time in my own mind working things out and at times I can distance myself from just what is happening in the now. I want more of the NOW.

What are some things that you want MORE of??

Thursday Thoughts: Remember Remember

1. It's the fifth of November.

2. Eeyore is still my favorite Winnie-The-Pooh character.

3. Dr. Suess was a genius. His books are still amazing.

4.Daylight Savings does not apply to parents.

5. Paying $6 for BRAND NEW jeans at the thrift store is my jam.

6.After finding the above GIF I remembered that I have two unused Victoria's Secret cards and I need to use them. They are about two years old. I know I know, but they don't carry my size bra in store (except in nasty brown/beige BS) and shipping fees SUCK. Ugh I'll just go buy some new underwear I guess.

7. I gave myself permission to work on just whatever random story popped into my head for NaNoWriMO instead of worrying about working on the one I've been working on forever. I am so glad I did this because writing has been going very well and I feel like I'm getting the feel for things again.

8. I wanna put my tree up.
9. If you wanna tell me about how there should be no Christmas stuff up yet because Thanksgiving I will kindly tell you to take that nonsense somewhere else. I'm a Christmas baby so therefore it is Christmas all the time in my heart.

10. Super proud of my city. 800,000 people were there to celebrate the Royals win and there was no rioting or massive destruction of property. Stay Classy KC.

Happy Thursday Everyone.

Thursday Thoughts

1. Today is my parents' 37th anniversary. They are still almost sickeningly in love. It's wonderful.

2.I am super proud that I got my brothers together yesterday so we could surprise my parents  with a group portrait of all of us. It was the one thing that my mom asked for and it took a little work since we all have really varied schedules but we did it and she cried from happiness.
We are a good looking group huh?

3. I am over the term "basic bitch". When did it become bad to like things? When did it become cool to make fun of other people who like things? Why can't I just enjoy what I enjoy? So what if a lot of other people like it? Why does that make it a bad thing?

4. I am once again super behind on reading posts and comments. I am trying to work on it, but man you take a couple days off for sickness/picture taking and you can really fall behind!

5. I still haven't seen The Martian and I am dying inside.

6. I am feeling the need to be crafty and creative again. I predict painting in my future.

7. Pumpkin Pie Blizzards are awesome. IDK what anyone else says. Awesome.

8. Knitting is so relaxing. I wish I had started it sooner!

9. My favorite bra busted an underwire yesterday. I feel so betrayed.

10. I didn't have a tenth one but leaving it on nine felt weird and awkward. So here you go.

Happy Thursday Everyone!

Thursday Thoughts: October Goals 2015

Good Morning Everyone,

Happy October 1st!

This year really is flying by but honestly I love the fall so I am very happy that we have arrived at this time of the year!

Since it is a new month and since I've been needing to make some changes I decided that today I would share my monthly goals with you all.

1) Make time for myself- This one is pretty big. If you read my confession post yesterday you probably know that I've been struggling with Mommy Guilt and feeling pretty bad about asking for any kind of help. However I know that it is in the best interest of my family and myself to start making a little time for just me. My mom offered to take Kyra a couple times a week so that I could go and workout for an hour and start getting her used to the idea that I don't have to be with her 24/7.

2) Step up the blogging game- I felt like I slacked of in September a lot. I really didn't post that often and when I did they were just mostly fluff posts. So this month I am going to try and really put out some good content and blog everyday Monday through Friday this month. I hope to get one or two weekend posts up as well.

3) Make a "big" goal list- I feel like I need to refocus on the things that I really want in life. Everyone needs to have a goal that they are working toward and I really feel like I need to figure out just what it is that I want and start making steps toward achieving those things.

4) Make Meal Planning a priority- Budgeting is something that I am still learning but I know for a fact that meal planning makes all the difference in our budget and in my daily stress level. If I have a plan for dinner it feels like the rest of the day falls into place.

5) Write- Write, Write, and Write some more. I felt like last month I was pretty much shut down in the creative/writing department. I need to get things moving again in my brain. I need that creative outlet. Even if what I write is never seen, even if it is pretty much crap, it won't matter. Any word written is better than the one not written.

So there you have my goals for the month. Do you have any goals for the month? Is there something in particular that you are excited about taking on? Let me know in the comments!

I realize that while the show may not be for everyone, the wisdom that Iroh gives out is not to be missed, so I'm going to share that with you today!
