Confessions 12/21/16

1. I confess that I had part of this post drafted for a totally different post from last week but Kiya got  really sick on Friday and the post never got published. I was scared that she wasn't going to make it and admittedly got completely distracted. I am happy to report that she is doing just fine!

2. I confess that I have been adding artwork to Robert's lunches. This one from last week was my favorite response however. It is supposed to be a squinty face with tongue out.

 3. I confess I got a real kick out of the UPS guy making a tower of our packages. It's like they are their own little Christmas tree!

 4. I confess I had a really great time last week at the play date. I loved getting to hang out with another mom and Kyra had such a good time playing with her girls! I hope we can continue to meet up and hang out because it was really wonderful to hang out with someone who gets that you will be interrupted at least twenty times a minute.

5. I confess that I have had this song on repeat since I heard it last week. I love it.

So what are your confessions for the week?

Reading....Cinder by Marissa Meyer . I have heard amazing things about this series and I am really looking forward to getting into this world!

Watching....Well Watched- Steampunk'd. I love the steampunk style. I think it is so creative and beautiful. This was a fun show that I randomly caught on Hulu and binge watched. Though I can't say that I agreed with the judges on some of the rooms.

Needing.....to finish wrapping gifts. Christmas is NEXT WEEK.

Wanting.....to get my nails done for the holidays, but at the same time it seems like an unnecessary expense right now. Maybe I should just suck it up and use one of the billion polishes I own and do it myself.

Amused....this adorable picture. My husband sometimes has to fill in at school crossings to help out at work and a little boy gave him this the other day. Isn't this so Adorable?

Enjoying.....Christmas Decorations. My mom is on a whole other level when it comes to this stuff!

Favorite Christmas Reads

Good Morning,

It's kind of a book theme this week isn't it?

I just thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite reads for getting into the Christmas mood. Yes these are children's book but I'm a firm believe that a truly great book is great because it appeals to all ages.

Here we go:

Twas the Night Before Christmas- A classic and always a fun read. It's beautiful and timeless.

196970

Rocking Horse Christmas-My mom bought me this book years ago and it still makes me cry. It's a wonderful story about imagination, growing up, and things coming full circle.
 269007

Santa's Snow Cat-  This is story about his snowy white kitty gets lost and searches to find her Santa.
 853711
Cajun Night Before Christmas- A twist on the classic this book is just hilarious to read. I remember reading it to the group of fourth graders that I was a teaching assistant for when I was in high school. So much fun.

McDuff's New Friend- I believe that McDuff has his own series but this is the one that I know best. McDuff the white puppy keeps hearing noises outside and when he goes to investigate he finds Santa's sleigh stuck in the snow!
 1018278

The Snow Bear- A story about a little Polar bear that gets separated from his mother. All the other animals gather to help him create a snow bear to keep him company until she finds him again.

The Polar Express- I wasn't overly fond of the movie adaptation of this one but the book is still considered a classic.
 420282

How The Grinch Stole Christmas- I love Dr. Suess. I love the whimsical worlds and I love the life lessons. "Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store....maybe Christmas perhaps....means a little bit more."

A Christmas Carol- I have many many editions of this story. I love reading it every year. Slightly creepy. Very moving. It will always have a home on my shelf.

Thursday Thoughts: Remember Remember

1. It's the fifth of November.

2. Eeyore is still my favorite Winnie-The-Pooh character.

3. Dr. Suess was a genius. His books are still amazing.

4.Daylight Savings does not apply to parents.

5. Paying $6 for BRAND NEW jeans at the thrift store is my jam.

6.After finding the above GIF I remembered that I have two unused Victoria's Secret cards and I need to use them. They are about two years old. I know I know, but they don't carry my size bra in store (except in nasty brown/beige BS) and shipping fees SUCK. Ugh I'll just go buy some new underwear I guess.

7. I gave myself permission to work on just whatever random story popped into my head for NaNoWriMO instead of worrying about working on the one I've been working on forever. I am so glad I did this because writing has been going very well and I feel like I'm getting the feel for things again.

8. I wanna put my tree up.
9. If you wanna tell me about how there should be no Christmas stuff up yet because Thanksgiving I will kindly tell you to take that nonsense somewhere else. I'm a Christmas baby so therefore it is Christmas all the time in my heart.

10. Super proud of my city. 800,000 people were there to celebrate the Royals win and there was no rioting or massive destruction of property. Stay Classy KC.

Happy Thursday Everyone.

The Christmas Quest

Good Morning Everyone,

Today I'm going to tell you a little story.

Every year it seems like around this time we find ourselves with a Quest.

This year's quest?

Finding the elusive ornament.

Every year we get a Hallmark ornament. Sunday we decided we would go shopping for ours this year. We got to the store and it was super crowded and it was making Kyra pretty fussy so we stepped outside to look up the options online.

The online listings had a lot more ornaments than we saw in the store but there were two ornaments in particular that we knew we had to have.

Behold "Baby Mine"  and "The Great White Menace"

I wanted "Baby Mine" for Kyra for sure. I love the movie Dumbo of course but the song in particular always makes me cry..in a good way! Bobby had to have Jaws just because it had the theme song and well you know it's JAWS!!

Both were out of stock at the Hallmark we were at so we drove to another Hallmark a few miles away.

Out of stock.

So we get on the phone and call the mall that is about 45 minutes away. Out of stock. The girl then tells us that these two particular ornaments were very popular this year and they have been out of stock for weeks.

You may not know this about Bobby and me but we are competitive and now that we know these are hard to find...it has become a Quest!

Ornament Challenge: ACCEPTED

We look up the numbers for all the Hallmark stores in a 100 mile radius and Bobby starts calling.

Out of stock. Out of Stock. Out of Stock.

Finally he finds a store that has "Baby Mine". They put it on hold for us but they don't have "Jaws".

The calls continue.

Success! There is one store that has the display model of "Jaws" left and they are willing to sell it to us...however we have to pick it up that night!

So we drop Kyra off at my parents and get on our way. Both stores that we have to get to are a LONG way away....and it is 3pm by now....the stores close at 5pm.

It's a race against time.

We arrive at the first store by 4pm and pick up "Baby Mine". It's finally ours! SO PRETTY!

One down....now we just have to get our fishy friend!

As we start the journey to the other store we notice that one of Kyra's toys has become lodged under Bobby's seat.

We now have to listen to Polly Wolly Doodle....for 40 minutes. No joke.

At last we arrive and the lovely ladies sell us our toothy friend!!

Victory!!!
