What I Read December 2016 Edition

December is always a hard month for me to get much reading done. The holidays and my birthday keep me pretty busy. I always make up for it in January though when I tend to stay indoors and not venture out into the miserable weather. I will never say that I don't enjoy the cold though because honestly I would rather it was only 4 degrees than have to deal with anything over 70!

Anyhow to the books!

1. I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid - I am still not sure what to think about this one. It was weird and creepy but really REALLY slow up until the very last bit, then it was a heart-stopping pace of crazy. I am not sure I enjoyed it or if I was just shocked by it. Honestly if I had not read reviews that told me to stick it out until the end I am not sure that I would have continued to plow through this one to get to the good stuff. So if you are interested in it I would warn that it takes a LONG time to get to the messed up and nail biting part but once you do you won't be able to put this one down. Read at your own discretion!

2. Shanghai Girls by Lisa See - I was listening to this one via audio book and had been listening for what felt like hours. I mean I had given Kyra a bath and taken a bath myself and done hair and nails and all that jazz but when I checked my progress I was only on page 78 of the book! Slow narration and a  rather brutal scene in the beginning killed this one for me. It wasn't a bad book really but I definitely preferred Snowflower and the Secret Fan to this one. If you are going to read this one just read the actual book and avoid the audio book completely!

What I Read: October 2016

Okay so I didn't get much reading done this past month. Or at least I didn't read many books, I spent a lot more time writing/reading my own stuff and then reading lots of creepy stories online to get my Halloween fill....also I was having a hard time with books this month and none of the ones I'm really excited to read have come in from the library yet.
Anyhow this is what I read last month.

The 5th wave by Rick Yancy-  I picked this up on a whim because I had seen that it was a movie and thought I would read the book first. Also the movie stars Chloe Grace Moretz  and I really like her as an actress. Overall this was a pretty boring as far as  YA reads go, the post apocalyptic world stuff is pretty overdone at this point and this one was really predictable in both characters and plot. It wasn't horrible but it is pretty ridiculous when it comes to cliche. I think that adults that are just fans of YA will get bored and might just want to give this one a miss!

Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender- Okay so this book looks SUPER creepy right? Disturbing and weird and totally something that I would pick up off the shelves and obviously I did. HOWEVER, this book was trite and boring right from the get go. The characters are just so utterly predictable....No one "gets me" rebellious but super smart girl, Weak willed younger sibling that will obviously be the target, Boy love interest that is just meh, Evil cheerleaders....*sigh* I just wasn't impressed and by the time the story actually got around to the ghost portion I was pretty much done and in my do not care mode. I started to give it three stars because I felt bad for giving it less but I think two stars is more than enough. Not the ghost story I was hoping for.

Okay so I didn't get much reading done the past month but this month is already looking up in the book department! Hopefully I will find some winners this time around!

My Books of 2014

Good Morning Everyone,

So about a week (or was it two weeks?) ago I was going to join the Show Us Your Books linkup....but as per usual my disorganized brain didn't get things together in time and I missed it.

Lucky for me GoodReads decided to remind me that I wanted to do this post by sending me the completed list of the books that I read for my 2014 challenge. I had challenged myself to read 52 books (a book a week) last  year because I wasn't sure how much reading I would get done having a 1 year old in the house.

I am happy to report I did indeed reach my goal (plus additional ones that I totally forgot to upload to my GoodReads Account. Whomp. Whomp.) even if that goal was reached through several sleepless nights where I simply could not put the book down or out of fear that I would have to wait several hours to know what happened if I didn't finish right away.

Out of those 52 books  I thought I would share with you my top five for the year!

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

19486412

This book was a stay up all night-gotta find out what happens next-type of book. It was totally not what I expected when I picked it up! Really enjoyed it and it made me very nervous about when Kyra goes to school!

Lucky Dog Matchmaking Service by Beth Kendrick

12196871

This is another book that took me by surprise! It was on the shelf at Barnes and Nobel as one of the employee favorites and I have to agree! I love dogs and this story was just the right amount of doggy/chic lit fun!

School For Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

16248113

This is the first in a series and I have to say I am really looking forward to the rest of the books. This takes a different look at what is considered "good" and "evil". I loved every minute of it!

Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

Doctor Sleep (The Shining #2)

Oh Stephen King.....you sure do know how to terrify a girl! This book was equal parts scary and mind game worthy! There is a particular scene that has scarred me for life. It is a sequel to The Shining and is a wonderful read for all those that wondered what happened to little Danny after the hotel!

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

I know that this book is a top favorite just because I have actually re-read it already! I loved the characters, I loved the time setting, and for some reason this resonated with me deeply. Maybe it is because Lincoln was a nerd or maybe it is because I too am prone to "over sharing" via technology!

I hope that if you haven't read these books you give them a chance and if you wanna see all 52 books that I finished you can check them out here.
