What are your life goals?

This question was posed to me recently. No it wasn't for a job interview or anything like that, in fact it was in reference to a D&D character that I had created for a game my brother is running.

Seriously.

And as I was coming up with my characters goals and motivations inevitably I started thinking about my own and I found myself just staring into space before admitting....I don't know.

Well that is horrifying and panic inducing.

I mean my life is a good life.

I have a good husband and two beautiful children. I am a stay at home mom which was important to me so that I would be there should my kids need me at any moment. I have a good family that I am close with and a place to live in and food on the table and all those blessings we take for granted on the daily.

But what were my goals?

I mean I have the usual goals:
To raise good humans who are compassionate and loving.
To eventually own a home
To make enough money to be comfortable.

These are good family goals but what about personally? What did I want for myself? More staring into space.

Well....shit. I'd totally lost sight of things that I wanted for just myself. To be fair the world does not encourage selfishness in mothers. There is a small movement for empowering them but honestly people will still give you the sideways look if you are doing something that isn't at least MOSTLY for your kids.

So what are my goals? Who do I want to be when I define me? Well here's what I have...
To write a book.
To work at a library again. (My favorite job I've ever had)
To be a woman comfortable in her own skin.
To care less what others think.
To have a monthly date night with my husband.

Nothing ground breaking sure but for now they will do. I'm still a little in the weeds when it comes to thinking about just what it is I want...and not getting bogged down but what I SHOULD want and what OTHERS want for me. So for now I'll just leave this little list here on the blog, alone and quiet as I whisper into the void....what it is I want?

2019 Goals

So we are 2 weeks into the new year, how is it going?

Mine has been fine so far, actually it's been busy with the normal day to day stuff but in the middle of all that I finally got a chance to sit down and put my goals on paper and felt like I would share them with you all!

1) Purge and Organize- I know that everyone is big on the whole Tidying Up thing and while I enjoyed the book I cannot stand the show. (The people are so annoying....I'd rather just watch her clean the houses herself without everyone else's drama.) I do enjoy the folding techniques which save space and I'm happily chucking out a ton of junk that I'm tired of staring at.

2) Budget and Save- I'm putting this out into the universe. I'm shouting it out loud, THIS WILL BE THE YEAR WE BUY A HOUSE. We've been searching and watching out budget and saving and I'm just so very ready to have our own home. We are officially out of space here and no amount of purging is going to change that fact. We need a home that is our own. We need space. Also budgeting is still a huge goal because honestly I'm tired of being in debt. Yeah a house is debt but it is a debt that I want. Student loans years after I've been out of college? Yeah I'm OVER IT.

3) Meal Planning- Part of the budget thing and part of the eating better and taking better care of my health. I'm also trying to make sure that I'm getting in the best I can for the kids. Robert too but honestly he's the pickiest of them all so I do the best I can.

4) Blogging and Writing- I miss these things. I keep making excuses for why I'm not doing them but I'm done with that. I want to commit to blogging a couple times a week and I want to commit to writing daily, even just journaling counts. I'm going to do it. It makes me happy and I am all about increasing happiness this year.

5) Take care of me- Self care, working out, eating right, reading, relaxing, working, all the things that make a person a person....I'm going to do more of things that make me a person. Being a mom is wonderful but it is not the only thing that I am. I'm going to start taking back a little bit of myself and again doing more of what makes me happy.

So that's the goal list for 2019! Not too bad and well within reach I think! I'll be reading blogs this week too and catching up with all of you! Can't wait to see what everyone has been up to!

March Recommendations

Burt's Bees oil cleanser- This has made taking my makeup off so much faster! To be honest while I love makeup and totally try to take care of my skin as much as possible there are still so many nights when I'm in a hurry to just get the gunk off and go to bed. This makes taking off eye liner and mascara a total breeze and I have noticed that it also makes my skin very happy! There are lots of different oil cleansers but I admit I picked this one because it is in the lower price range and no regrets so far!
Burt's Bees Cleansing Oil with Coconut & Argan Cleanser, 6 Ounce

Organizers for makeup- My husband bought these for me for Christmas and I LOVE them. If you are a makeup hoarder like myself these are awesome to organize your stash.
ELOKI 360 Rotating Makeup Organizer, DIY Detachable Spinning Makeup Holder Storage Bag Case Large Capacity Makeup Caddy Shelf Acrylic Cosmetics Organizer Box, Great for Countertop, Black
Essential oils- I am totally late to the party but essential oils have changed my cleaning routine as far as laundry and cleaning my mattress goes. They smell awesome and last so long and yeah just take the plunge it's worth it.

YouTube channels- I'm totally into cleaning/vlogging/mommy videos these days. This might not be up your alley but if you are so inclined my favorites are:

Love Meg

Beauty and Beastons

Flipside of the Moon

Wet N Wild Foundation- Super cheap and it has the staying power of a much more expensive foundation. I love a deal and this one is amazing. It has a pretty broad shade range and very build-able coverage!
Dry Shampoo- Again I'm late to the party but I was sent this sample of dry shampoo and now I'm hooked and basically this will have to be in my regular stash especially with baby boy due in a few months and my knowing that showers will be few and far between once he arrives. I love this one but honestly it is super pricey so if you have any recommendations for something cheaper I am all for it! However I will say this one is worth the money, especially if you are a brunette or darker hair color.
ORIBE Gold Lust Dry Shampoo, 6 oz.
Podcasts- I've told you all about the Curvy Girl Podcast before and I'm still in love with it but now I have a new podcast that I have been bingeing on and honestly I'm probably late to this party too but:
My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark

I love true crime but I love Karen and Georgia even more. They deliver the stories so well and with hilarity that takes the brutal edge off. Plus they are just realatable and funny and yeah you should listen.

So what are your March Recommendations?

My "Must Watch" Christmas Movies

1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Animated Version ONLY)- I am not a fan of the live action version at all. The story is completely backward from the original tale and while certain parts make me laugh out loud (Most of the Grinch parts) the Whos in Whoville make me really sad. They are supposed to be the moral center...not the Grinch!

2. Muppet Christmas Carol- I remember going to see this with a group of friends at the movies. It was actually for my birthday and there were twelve of us and seriously my parents must have been crazy. However the movie is brilliant and still tugs my heartstrings each time I watch it.

3. Home Alone 1&2- Classics. Usually watch these while putting up my tree.

4. Elf- A newer classic but still a classic in my opinion. Funny and ridiculous and perfect for when the holiday stress starts to get the better of you!

5. Love Actually- I was late to the party in falling in love with this one but honestly it's just sweet. I love following all the different story lines that also connect in one way or another. Plus Hugh Grant dancing is the BEST.

6. The Holiday- So many beautiful quotes from this movie and so many hilarious and wonderful moments. I laugh and cry every time I watch it. Kate Winslet is just brilliant.

7. The Family Stone- I saw this movie with my mom and bawled like a baby. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and is our family stone. Also the two main brothers (Luke Wilson and Dermot Mulroney) are basically just like my own brothers. Also I am both the older sister and the mean sister. I had to be both since I am the only girl.

8. Little Women- Okay so this isn't really a Christmas movie but I love the Christmas scene where they have the lovely breakfast all put out and then give it to the family in need. I mean if that isn't Christmas spirit I don't know what is.

9. Jingle All the Way-Pure fun and hilarity. Plus my brother does the "Put that Cookie Down!" bit and it cracks me up every time.

10. The Santa Clause- I still find this movie magical even years later. I am happy to report that it is currently on Netflix if you haven't gotten the chance to see it!

11. Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer- Another absolute classic and one of Kyra's favorites as well. She loves to see the reindeer fly. Also she really liked the Bumble.

12. Miracle on 34th Street-I ususally watch this one on Thanksgiving because that is technically the day it starts. I prefer the newer version to the old one and the scene where everyone posts that they believe still makes me cry. Yes I am a bit soft mushy person on the inside.

So what are your "Must Watch" Christmas movies?

Okay so you will note that Christmas Vacation is not on this list. There is a reason! I was only introduced to this movie a year ago.....not kidding. So I've only seen it all the way through once!

Another note* I Forgot to add A Christmas Story to this list as well...it's not a "must watch" but it usually gets watched because TNT airs it for 24 hours during Christmas Eve anyhow so eventually I see it at some point.

More Things I Believe This Week

It is okay to un-follow/ un-friend those who no longer help you thrive. You don't need that negativity.

It is okay to step back and reevaluate your goals. This is not giving up, it is growing up.

Your Day Dream is important.

Tell your story, even the ugly bits. You are real and that is wonderful.

Purging old clothes is therapeutic and freeing.

When it comes to blog posts it is always better late than never!

Things I believe this week

I need to work on my self care more. Yesterday I spent the day on the couch with a heating pad due to a pulled muscle in my back. I keep telling myself I need to get in a massage to take care of the stress I am carrying around in my back but I also keep putting it off.

Mani/Pedi should start becoming a more important part of my weekly routines. My toes look fine but my fingernails are a hot mess.

I need to get over my body issues. Looking at pictures from high school was a huge awakening. I wasted SO MUCH TIME convinced that I was ugly and fat and gross in high school and I look like a perfectly normal teen. I spend so much time hating my body and I need to get over it and let it go.

Face Masks are my skin's saving grace. I had posted about getting the Peter Thomas Roth masks at Sephora and I am honestly in love. Actually I might do an entire post on them!

That taking a day off to heal is not a weakness nor is it laziness. If you get hurt you need to take it easy and heal. There is no shame in that.

Time spent snuggled up reading the same book over and over again with Kyra is never time wasted.

Her current favorite book.

Tag it Tuesday: Who's That Guy?

Today I am stealing borrowing a post from Erin! This post has been in the archives for a while now and it just felt like time to post it!  So today I'm going to share with you all a little about my husband aka Bobby aka Robert aka

Which of the Seven Dwarfs do you most identify with?
Right now it is a combo of Grumpy and Sneezey (He has a head cold)

Which Disney princess do you think is the hottest?
Belle

What are five of your favorite movies?

If you could drive any exotic car, what would it be?
The Ecto-One

If you were to pack up and move somewhere new without worrying about work or finances, where would you go?
Caribbean

If you were to start a blog, what would you write about?
Nerd Stuff

What item on your bucket list do you most look forward to crossing off?
Light a match with a .22 bullet

If you could be a member of any band, what would you play and who would you join?
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Electric Violin

What do you remember about our first date?
Him: Everything
Me: Not an answer
Him: The light coming on on your front porch (aka time for me to go inside)

What has been the most memorable thing we’ve done together?
Had Kyra
What is your favorite thing about me?
You make me laugh

What is one thing you want people to know about you?
I'm Awesome.

The answers seem pretty simple but this took a pretty long time for him to answer because he has a hard time deciding on things like favorite movies and places to go....also he usually cracks up because he thought of something hilariously inappropriate first before giving me a direct answer!

Creature Comforts

I saw this post last week on Steph's blog and I thought it was just really fun and I love reading about the things that people enjoy just because they enjoy them. Self care is so important and I see nothing wrong with being just a little selfish and just plain liking STUFF!

Here's a few of my little comforts....

Makeup- yes you all saw this one coming but seriously makeup makes me happy. I love watching people apply it, I love applying it, I love the colors and the way you can completely just change your look. Makeup is my thing.

Nail polish (no matter how many shades I have)

Geeky/Nerdy stuff- I fully embrace my geek/nerd status. I love ALL. OF. THE. THINGS.

Journals- Whenever I see a new one I just can't help myself.

Thrifted books- I love the thrill of collecting series via the thrift store. It just makes my heart happy to pick up books for super cheap!

Super Fancy Bellami Curling Wand- Robert actually bought this for me for Christmas one year and honestly I LOVE it. It works so well on my hair and I love all the different attachments for different styles.

Also Love my Chi Flat Iron

Cute Shoes

Movies- whether it is going to the theater, streaming, or just buying DVDs...movies are our thing.

Trips to Comic Con and Renaissance Festivals- I live for these trips. I love dressing up, I love the people and their enthusiasm. I just feel like I am with MY people when I attend these events!

I am still super proud of my fairy house!

So what are your creature comforts?

Thursday Thoughts 8/11

1. I had an awesome confessions post for yesterday but then I couldn't find the picture I needed and thus never got it finished and in a fit of childish tantrum just decided to wait until next week since the post wasn't "perfect". Sometimes I am a brat.

2. I have been behind on emails and blogs all week and am spending the morning trying to get caught up on all of them. There were 50 linkups in the book linkup this week and I'm trying to work through them all. Still 50! How cool is that??

3. The changing of Doritos to "Fire Chips" is in full swing. Kyra keeps calling them that whenever we see them in stores and now other children are picking up on the trend. Someday I will see #Firechips on Twitter and will know that my kiddo started it.

4. My insomnia has been at an all time high this week. I haven't gotten to sleep before 4 am any time this week and Kyra is bright eyed and ready to go by 7am. I'm tired but yet sleep is still not forthcoming.

5. I have walked around my downtown area more this past month than I have ever in my life. Yes I've been playing Pokemon while walking but it has really been fun to see my little town change...even just over a few weeks. Apparently we have a Free Little Library here! Basically you take a book and leave a book. It's all honor system based and just really awesome!

Short and sweet thoughts today since I'm tired and also trying to get through all my emails and blog posts. Happy Thursday Everyone.

If were were having coffee....

The soundtrack music would most likely be Peppa Pig, Peep's Big Wide World, Little Charmers, or Fall Out Boy if Kyra is watching Big Hero Six.

The Coffee is made by the cup via Keurig. I usually just make Folgers via the Eco Cup but I do have some pumpkin spice that I have been hoarding if you are interested.

I have a million awesome mugs to choose from.

I only have vanilla creamer but I do usually have milk and sugar.

Baked goods are always an option. I will have to whip some up but if I know what you like I promise it is no trouble.

We could talk current events but I'm more inclined to talk about the awesomeness of Netflix Original Series Stranger Things.

I will apologize approximately 10 times for the state of my house. It's clean but I have a three year old who has MANY toys. Also I have three dogs. Also I cut myself no slack.

I will be happy to discuss the merits of skin care and makeup. These are two items I can talk about at great length.

I will probably forget to offer you seconds on everything but just know you can help yourself. It makes me so happy when someone enjoys something I made enough to want more.

I would tell you that I've missed Blogging. I've missed writing. I've missed that awesome feeling when you hit "Publish".

I would tell you that no matter what problem you are dealing with I'm here to listen. I won't offer advise since that isn't really my thing...but I will be there to listen.

I would tell you that I'm so glad you stop by this little space for some portion of your day. There are millions upon millions of blogs out there...and it means the world that you stopped by mine.

Finally I would tell you that we should make this a regular thing. That it does everyone good to simply sit and enjoy a cup of coffee...

Hey It's Okay....

To utterly neglect housework in favor of reading.

To actually do housework while engrossed in audio books and basically be in a whole other world.

To sit on the un-vacuumed floor and color in a color book with your daughter when she asks if you will play with her.

To already start planning Halloween decor and costumes.

To extra pamper your dogs as an apology for the new puppy.

To have pretty much only taken photos of the new puppy for the past week....

She now has one ear that sticks up! It's hilarious.

To take a blogging break just because you need one.

To want to come back to blogging and then drawing a massive blank as to where to begin...so you write some fluff.

It's totally okay.

What I Read- June 2016

It's time for the best linkup of the month again! Let's see those books!

25489013
American Housewife: Stories by Helen Ellis- This set of short stories was just hit and miss for me. Some were dark and really funny and others were just downright boring or insulting. As you can see by the title it is a set of short stories about housewives and their lives in the home...or just their lives in general.  I listened to this one on audio book and I have to say that the voice acting was really enjoyable even when the stories weren't. It was a really short set of stories so if you are into that kind of thing you might enjoy it but I wouldn't go out and pick it up right away or anything.

23512999
The Bazaar of Bad Dreams by Stephen King- I really enjoy Stephen King's writing most of the time and I was excited to read his short stories. (well in this case listen to them) I have to say that I enjoyed all but like two of them. I actually think I preferred his short stories to a lot of his longer novels simply because he didn't go off on tangents with with most of them. I enjoy his writing but I can see how many are thrown off if you aren't used to his style. These stories were dark, creepy, and pretty much awesome. I think I loved the very first story the most but all in all it was a great set of scary tales to keep you up at night.

24770
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld- This was one that I read for Erin's Read Your Own Books Challenge. I have gotten this whole trilogy via the thrift store and yet had not gotten a chance to read any of them. Finally I did and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I am kind of over the whole distopian society thing because it has been done and done well several times before. (Divergent, Hunger Games, Maze Runner...etc) This one however actually had me concerned for my priorities. I actually thought it would be lovely to turn 16 and they instantly make you pretty....no more body issues....just...pretty. THAT is DISTURBING. I have always struggled with body image but now that I am older I am learning to love the woman that I am and all the parts of her...so this was a trip to send me right back to that place of wanting to be PRETTY. If you are into YA fiction, Distopian Futures, and all that jazz I would highly recommend this book. I am halfway through the next one and it is just a enjoyable!

17674991
Paddle Your Own Canoe by Nick Offerman- Another of the books on my list from Erin's Challenge. This audio book has been in my Audible account for about forever so I thought I would give it a go. I loved listening to Nick Offerman's voice as I think it is pretty amazing and the book itself was good. It wasn't my favorite and it had moments where it was a bit dry for me but overall I really liked it. It is a VERY opinionated book but I liked that about it. Also if you check out the title you can tell that it is going to be that sort of book. Sure there is some humor but mostly it was just Nick and his tell it like I see it point of view. I didn't always agree with him but I liked listening to his take on things and he made good arguments. All in all I am glad that I finally gave this one a chance!

15843166
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero - I saw this book on an instagram post and immediately I was drawn to it. The title for sure sucked me in and I had to know what this book was about. Basically this is a "self help" book. Sure it has a lot of Whoo Whoo moments but I have to say....I kinda loved this book. I have been working on getting to a place where I feel comfortable in who I am and also learning what direction I want to take in my life in order to become who I want to be in the future. This book is really inspiring and frankly really honest about getting things together and taking charge of your life. It happened to just come along at the right time for me and I actually think that I will be purchasing it in the very near future. This was another one that I listened to on audio book and I think this one is for sure one that is better on audio book verses reading it on your own.

So there are my books for June! Be sure to join the linkup for more books to add to your reading list!

Permission Granted

To cut back on blogging when it starts to feel like a chore and not feel guilty about it.

To not touch my phone to snap, take pictures, etc when instead I am living my life instead of living through a screen.

To treat myself to something completely self indulgent once in awhile.

To write about whatever I LIKE on MY BLOG.

To let go and embrace the things that make me happy.

To stop worrying so much.

To say NO.

To love myself. Every Amazing Inch. Every Fabulous Flaw.

To rest once in awhile.

To do something I really love....even if it doesn't make me a dime.

To say that I have no clue. I don't have to know everything.

To try. Fail. Try again. Make mistakes and learn.

What do you give yourself permission to do?

May Goals and Linkup!

1. Workout-I had this goal last month but I admit that I fell really short on it. This month I am shooting for 3x per week!

2. Use MyFitnessPal- In my effort to get healthy I am also going to be tracking my meals in MyFitnessPal again. It just helps keep me aware of just what I am eating!

3. Plan Kyra's 3rd Birthday- Kyra will be turning three in a month! I can hardly believe it and now I need to get on the ball an plan this party for my girl!

4. De-clutter- To get prepared for Kyra's party I need to seriously De-clutter some of her toys....it looks like we have five kids...not just one.

5. Planet Comic Con - I am so excited about this! I have to get prepared for the actual days (a lot of prep goes into a full weekend con!) and also have some other things that have to get taken care of as well before May 20th!!!

I'm linking up my goals this month in a new linkup! The What's New With You Linkup!  Be sure to join in!

April 2016 Goals

1. Workout- In an effort to shake the slump and get things going I've decided that I need to get things going. Namely I need to get myself going. So I am shooting for at least 30 minutes a day but honestly even five minutes is better than nothing!

2. Read- My reading took kind of a hit lately and I've got a huge stack of To Read books that I am more than ready to get into.

3. Write- I need to write. Even just a paragraph a day. I need to get writing again. Whether it is actual writing or just journaling my thoughts. Writing is writing.

4. Bedtime- I have a great night time routine for my face but getting to sleep is a whole other thing. I need to start getting into bed at a normal time.

5. Meditate- I was doing so well with this but once I hit the slump I was so not in the mood to listen to meditations and trying to do unguided ones just resulted in me worrying about things instead of relaxing. So once again I will start from the beginning at three minute intervals and move forward from there.

What are your goals for the month? Anyone else going through a bit of a slump? I feel like the whole blogging world has been in one.

Friday Five 4/1

1. It's been a bit of a rough week around here. Kyra and I have been sick all week. It's just a cold but it is a miserable kind of cold. Lots of coughing, hacking, sneezing as well as running a slight fever. Around last Friday I knew I was going to get sick but I didn't expect it to be the kind of sickness that sticks around and lingers and spreads to literally everyone. So Kyra and I have spent the whole week pretty much on the couch and attempting to get better.

sick ill flu jennifer lawrence jennifer lawrence gif

2. One of the things I really hate about getting sick is that I can't seem to get anything done. I have laundry piled up and the floor needs vacuumed, etc. etc. It only makes me feel worse knowing that not only am I a wreck but my house is as well.

lol life work college 2013

3. Also I should get better about having posts in the draft pile that I can just publish when I cannot seem to get any writing done. This whole week was a big SKIP because I didn't have anything ready to go other than my confessions post. I wish I were more prepared. Something to work on.

4. Instagram is now infuriating. Notifications Suck. Stop being stupid.

5. We bought our tickets for Planet Comicon! Our friends are coming as well and for one of them it will be their first con ever! I'm so excited to go and am debating whether or not I want to Cosplay....of course I debate this every year but usually back out due to either not being able to decide or my own mental hangups about how I look. Maybe this year will be the year I take the plunge.

That is pretty much it, hope you all have a great weekend!

It's April already....how did that happen?

Confessions: Things that Irk Me

I remember Kathy doing a post of things that made her irrationally angry and I decided to come up with a list of my own. Not so much things that make me angry but things that just irk the hell out of me.

1. Dirty socks stuffed in shoes and not put in the laundry

2. Wet Towels thrown on the ground. Ick. Ick. Ick.

3. There is a church that I pass every time I leave my house and their sign is always attempting to be funny or clever and it just really annoys me. The latest? "Have the Donkey and the Elephant let you down? Try the Lamb!" ------I cringe every time I see it.

4. How freaking hard it is to get SnapChat to load the silly filters. Maybe I'm just dumb but it takes forever for it to recognize my face and load the list of filters. Annoying.

5. When people play music in the car while someone else is watching a video or listening to some other form of media. Seriously the car is TOO SMALL A SPACE for all that noise!

6. When one side of the sink is clearly dirty dishes and someone puts their dirty dish in the clean side. Seriously WTF?

7.  When my husband puts work calls on speakerphone so I am forced to listen to the nonsense as well.

8. When people tell me to "Smile! It's not that bad!" Usually it is men that do this too. Why do you do this? Why do you need me to smile all the freaking time? Is it because you are afraid that I'm thinking? Well I am. So leave me alone.

9.  The fact that Hulu plays the same damn commercials every break. Sure it is only a few commercials but the same ones every time? So annoying.

10. The fact that Instagram is changing things up the same way that Facebook did......I legit do not care about stuff that happened three days ago...I want the instant feed. Same way I wanted the "Most Recent" on Facebook. Why is Instagram ruining things?

What Irks You? Anything on my list irk you as well?  Let me know in the comments.

Been There Done That?

I saw this post over on Erin's blog and I thought that it was just a fun way to share some little known (and some well known) fun facts about me! I actually learned a lot about Erin from this post so I am really excited to share!

Now on to the list!

( X  ) Shot a gun
Yep. Lots of times. My dad made sure I knew how to use one by the time I was twelve.

(  X ) Gone on a blind date
