Geeky Girl Gift Guide

So if you are like me you are probably already shopping for Christmas and if you are an overachiever you are already done. However if you find that you are stumped when it comes to the geeky girls in your life or if you yourself are trying to come up with a list for yourself, I have the solution! I give you....My Gift Guide for Geeky Girls!

DIY Steam-Pumpkin

I really like Steampunk. I love the style and I love the look. This year I decided that I would test out my own Steampunk skills by making a Steam-pumpkin! 

Here are the steps to make your own!

First: Gather the supplies!

 Foam pumpkin from Dollar Tree. Foam strips that I picked up at the thrift store but you can find these at any craft store. Two part epoxy. Hot glue and hot glue gun. Black paint and paint brushes. Metallic Rub and Buff.

First off I started by cutting up the foam into random sized strips. Then I it was time to hot glue them to the pumpkin! 

After each bit was hot glued then I started with the two part epoxy and made little rivets. Now this part was a bit of a pain as the epoxy gave me a lot of trouble. I think that just little drops of hot glue would have worked but then again it might have just been user error with the epoxy! Either way start going to town making rivets!

Next step was to paint it all black. You could have done any color really but I was going for a more silver/black theme with my pumpkin. 

Now for the most fun part! Using metallic rub and buff I took a rag and started buffing the rub and buff all over the pumpkin. There were places I got a little heavy handed but you just have to keep working it until you get the look you are going for. 

Once you are done you are left with an awesome Steam-pumpkin! This was a really fun project and I am looking forward to doing more like it very soon!

Friday Favorites 9/16

In the mood for some more favorites this week so here we go! 

Local Awesome Favorite: 

 

So being a library junkie like myself it is pretty much a given that eventually I will forget a book and end up with a fine. Well the local (to Kansas City) library chain is currently running a promotion called Food for Fines! Bring in non perishable items to donate to the community and get money off your fines! I owed 3 dollars and took in three cans and now my fines are gone and I donated to a good cause! Super awesome idea and I urge you to check it out if you are in the area or see if your library offers a similar promotion!


Beauty: 

Admittedly this looks like more trouble than I would go to...but it is super pretty!

Unicorn Brushes...I need these in my life.

Fashion: 

I really love any jewelry that involves moon and stars. This is so pretty.

I adore Rachel Khoo's food and her style is just awesome. This polka dot dress with red belt needs to be in my closet!

Nerdy Girl: 

I cannot express my need for these.

Some wonderful soul on YouTube edited out the rap and now it sounds awesome! *Also the rap contains one line at the end "But you ain't never known someone like me before" or some nonsense and it completely negates the song. It doesn't matter WHO you are. YOU DON'T OWN ME.
