Confessions 10/21

I confess that for all my big talk yesterday all I got around to doing was replying to comments but didn't actually get any other blogs read.

I confess that my second busy season of the year is almost upon me. My parents' anniversary is tomorrow, My brother's birthday is on Saturday, Then Halloween, before you know it Thanksgiving, then all the Christmas shopping/planning/parties, more birthdays, my own birthday, Christmas, and then the new year....safe to say these next few months will fly by.

I confess that I had a mini freak out after I treated my ear on Monday. It burned like hell fire for about five minutes and then it felt like a had a wad of cotton in my ear it was so muffled. However today it is feeling just fine and no longer hurts when I swallow. Huzzah!

I confess my biggest fear is not that this cold will get worse but that my husband will get it and the apocalypse will surely begin.

I confess that at this moment Kyra is blowing raspberries against my arm. I have no idea why. Being a parent is just strange sometimes.

I confess that last week when we took Kyra to get her pictures taken I was worried it was going to be the most horrific experience. However I was thrilled when she was pretty much awesome the entire time and we got some really cute pictures!!

I confess that last confession was mostly just to show off my adorable child. #sorrynotsorry

Hello, I'm Sick

Good Morning Everyone,

So over the weekend I managed to get sick. Of course because I am a good blogger and super organized I totally had posts scheduled and ready to go. Wait....no I didn't.

So obviously I had posts in draft that I could just select and publish those right?

Yeah I didn't think that sounded like me either.

So instead I am completely behind on comments, haven't read any blog posts, and of course had to whip this post up on Tuesday morning because I gave Monday a complete miss. ( I am SO sorry! I will respond to your comments I promise!)

I wanted to post yesterday but every time I looked at a computer my head started to swim. Also I was catching up on all the things that didn't get done over the weekend because I was down and out. It took literally hours to do all the dishes, laundry, vacuuming, dusting, etc. Adding in time to cough, sneeze, and generally wheeze about. I wish I could have just left it all until I felt better but I couldn't look at the dishes for another minute in my sink.

So today I will be working on catching up reading blog posts and responding to comments. At least I will for as long as I can before my head starts swimming again. (I think I have a mild ear infection as well.)

Hope your Tuesday is going well. Disinfect ALL THE THINGS. Cold Season is upon us.

No Thanks, I'm Good

Good Morning Everyone,

I'm feeling a list coming on...

1. Go Camping- Why do you want me to go and live like I don't have a home? I have a home. It has indoor plumbing and a comfy bed. Also Netflix and a fridge.

2. Watch Baseball-  I think it is boring and lasts entirely too long. Call me UN-American if you will.

3. Go Skydiving- Nope. Never. Nope.

4. Drink Green Juice/ Juice Cleanse- It looks disgusting. I know it tastes disgusting because you still make a face even while telling me it is SO good for you. You drink it if you like, but I'll pass.

5. Drink Red Bull- Straight or as a mixer it still tastes like battery acid. Yuck.

6. Get a Septum Piercing- Or faux piercing as is apparently popular all over Instagram and in magazines. Sorry but it looks like you are an animal going to slaughter. You do you, but I'll have to pass.

7. Wear Skinny Jeans- Ridiculous on guys IMO. Not for me, yes I will wear leggings but I have all the important things covered thanks. Skinny jeans just sound like a prison for my legs.

8. Watch Real Housewives of Anything- I'm sorry but these shows give me anxiety with all the drama and yelling. I'll just go read and yell and cry over a book instead.

9.  Go Running for any period of time- I've never gotten the "runner's high". I will walk for days but running...it just involves to many logistics in the clothing department.

10. Go Vegan/Vegetarian- yeah...no. Bacon is tasty. #Sorrynotsorry

What are your "No Thanks, I'm Good" things? Let me know in the comments below!

Confessions 10/14

Good Morning Everyone,

Time for some confessions....

I confess that I am currently hiding in my bedroom because tonight is Bobby's game night. Normally the guys all game at my in laws but tonight the game got moved. Now this might not have been an issue but Tuesdays are my nights to write and do beauty routines. Meaning they all came over and I have coconut oil in my hair, a face mask, and I generally look like a crazy person.

I confess that I've wasted a ridiculous amount of time on the You Cam App. Have you tried this thing? It adds makeup and junk to your face and sometimes it turns out really pretty and sometimes it is just hilarious. Bobby wouldn't let me post his pictures but let me tell you it was hilarious. Honestly I thought mine turned out awesome especially since I was completely makeup free otherwise!
I legit have no makeup on in this photo. This is just what the app did.

I confess that I have been really trying to figure out the whole "work from home" bit lately. I want to be able to contribute to our bills while still being a good mommy and wife. It's a tough gig. There are lots of scams, lots of hoops to jump through....honestly it is just really frustrating trying to be helpful and just finding brick wall after brick wall.

I confess that I really hoped....I hoped a lot when I was starting out back in 2003... that blogging/writing would be my full time thing. I so wanted to be one of those professional bloggers that had brilliant and viral posts. I wanted to write things that people loved reading....but now I worry that doing so means "selling out". I hate blogs that are so covered in ads that I can't even scroll through the content. I don't want to be an ad only based blogger...even if I could use the money.

I confess that I sigh inwardly when I see glossy white backgrounds with perfectly staged items. Not because I resent those bloggers but because my life isn't the kind of life with perfect white backgrounds. This blog has Chaos in the title for a reason. I have to fight for every moment I get to write now that I'm a Stay at Home Mom. I thought (naively!) that once I was home I would have MORE time to write. Instead I have so much less. I used to write during my mid morning break or even during my lunch hour....now I don't get those things. Most of my writing is now done in the dark well after bedtime.

I confess that despite the above confessions...I still really love blogging. I love reading blogs and seeing other people's lives and opinions. I love the linkups that let me share things that I love and give me knew things to try out and explore. I still hope that someday....this will not only be something I love but something that loves me back.

Happy Humpday Everyone.

Be sure to join the linkup and share your confessions!

What I Read: September 2015 Edition

Good Morning Everyone!

It's that time again! Best Linkup of the Month!

Life According to Steph

Here's what I read!

The Cure for the Common Breakup by Beth Kendrick- This book was just fun. It was a little predictable and silly but a great one to read if you enjoy lighthearted romance novel types. Also I am so tempted to make the The Cure of the Common Breakup Drink! Also it is labeled as Black Dog Bay #1 so I am hopeful that it will be a series! I had read another book by Kendrick before the Lucky Dog Matchmaking Service and it is one of my favorite books. Also silly, a little predictable, and fun. Sometimes you just need something light!

Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky- I own the movie but I had never read the book. I have to say that I was really impressed with how the movie stayed pretty much true to the book! Charlie was even more awkward in the book version however but that was okay. It made me uneasy and I think that is how you are supposed to feel when you read this book. Everything has another level to it and every event feels like a life changer when you are a teen...some of them are life changing and you never even realize it. Great book and of course it has one of the best quotes ever, "We Accept The Love We Think We Deserve" Some of the truest words ever written.

Death by Tiara by Laura Levine- This is number twelve in this series and yep it was predictable as all get out. I never mind though because I have been reading the series forever and I don't mind that it is a cozy mystery with pretty basic and stereotypical characters. I love Jaine and I love her cat Prozac. Her parents are super hilarious as well. This is a good one to read if you don't mind that the mystery is simple and are just in it for the laughs. Another good one for light reading that doesn't involve any effort!

People I want to Punch in the Throat by Jen Mann- I have a love/hate relationship with this one. I loved her wit and her blunt delivery. Some of the things she says I agree with wholeheartedly but some things I just couldn't get on board with, but the one thing that irritated me the most was that she referred to her husband as The HUBS through the whole book. Now this irritates me in general but since I got the book on audio book it was ten times worse. That being said this is a pretty funny book if you are into reading about the ridiculousness of the "mommy wars" and suburban life in general.

The Raft by S.A. Bodeen- I picked this one up on a whim and honestly I enjoyed it. It was a very quick read but the tension in it was very real. Basically the main character ends up stranded on a raft in the ocean. No one knows that she was even on the plane so no one knows where to look for her. Reminded me a bit of Life of Pi but not nearly as in depth. Still it was a good read.

Wild by Cheryl Strayed- To be honest I only picked this up because I saw it was going to be a movie with Reece Witherspoon. It was a good read and I can appreciate her determination to walk her way back to the person that she was....only to find someone better along the way. I did watch the movie and it did a very good job of telling the story and skipping over the slower parts of the book. If this isn't your style of book you might check out the movie.

Room by Emma Donoghue- Another one being made into a movie but I actually picked this one up because of this linkup! This story was really intense at the beginning but slowed for me toward the middle. Written from the point of view of a five year old, it can at times be a little frustrating to read. Jack has lived in "Room" all his life with his mother. "Room" is his entire world and he doesn't understand why his mother so desperately wants to escape from "Room" and from Old Nick. It was a good story but like I said it slowed at the middle for me and I had to kind of push through to finish it.

Castle Hangnail by Ursula Vernon- This is for my fans of JV fiction, or if you have kids that are ready for chapter books. A very cute story about a band of minions that are taking care of a castle and waiting for a new master to take over before the castle is decommissioned. A new master does arrive in the form of Molly, a young girl claiming to be the new wicked witch of the castle. Loved this one and I am hopeful it will turn into a series because I think Kyra will really love it when she is older!

Down the Rabbit Hole by Holly Madison- So I've stated before that I'm not really into reality TV but when I was in college I did love to watch The Girls Next Door so when this book came out I knew that I would read it. It's a "tell all" style book where Holly Madison recounts her time at the playboy mansion as one of Hugh Hefner's girlfriends. It covers everything from how she got to the mansion, her time there, working on Girls Next Door, and after she left. I personally enjoyed the book but I took it with a grain of salt as well. There are always different sides to the same story and while I did enjoy Holly's side I felt that some of it may have stretched the truth a bit. I would recommend this one if you were a fan of the show, or if you just want to read some down and dirty secrets of the mansion.

Whew! That was a lot of books for the month! I can't wait to read about all of the books you read last month as well! Be sure to join the linkup!

Weekend Recap: The Reenactment

Saturday: We started off the morning by going out and getting breakfast at our favorite local place which put all of us in a good mood after a rather sleepless night. (Kyra has started having nightmares and it takes a long time to get her back down after a bad one.) Plus the weather was lovely and it was the perfect day for being out and about. Since it was so nice we decided that we would go and see my in-laws. They are Civil War Reenactors and we thought it might be fun  to go and watch.

It really was a lot of fun and amazingly enough Kyra LOVED the cannons. I thought for sure she would jump but she clapped and shouted "FUN!" every time one went off. She is definitely my husband's daughter.

The actors were really great and it was quite the site to see. I was glad that there was commentary going on over the loud speakers because there was quite a lot to keep track of...I know that the pictures don't show a whole lot but unfortunately I was holding Kyra for most of it so I didn't get the chance to take all that many. Plus they are just phone pics because we didn't have the fancy camera.

After the battle we returned the the camp to visit with my in-laws for a bit. Yes they are staying in an old fashioned tent and this is Kyra wearing an old fashioned lady's snood while standing in said tent.

After the reenactment we headed home for a little dinner/bath time/ bedtime!

Sunday: I had every intention of spending Sunday at home working on chores but my husband didn't want to be stuck at the house all day so we headed out for another adventure. We decided to drive down into the city for a little "window" shopping. We hit up the normal places- Home Goods, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Target, etc.

You find the best stuff at T.J. Maxx. Like this epic coozy.

We also stopped in at Z Gallerie which I had heard about a lot but had never actually set foot in one before. It was really fun! I loved a lot of the pieces and it had me thinking that I should really redecorate....everything! We didn't buy anything but it was still a lot of fun to look around and get inspired.
Loved this setup. Bobby was lusting after the benches. He likes big family gathering style.

We both loved this chandelier.

You might not be able to tell but that is an octopus holding the table up. I have no idea why but I loved this.

After that we met up with my parents and my brother and his g/f and did a little shopping at Joanns. Mom is helping my brother's g/f with her Halloween costume and is also helping me with a little sewing project as well. We shopped for a bit then it was off to dinner (Chinese, YUM!) and then we parted ways. Bobby had to go and get some pants for work so we headed off to Kohls. It took forever but he got what he needed and we actually got some seriously good deals so all in all it was a win!

And that was our weekend!

How was yours?
