What I Read: April Edition

Good Morning Everyone!

Today is an awesome day for two reasons.

1) It's my 3 Year anniversary!

2) It's the most Awesome Book Linkup Ever!
Life According to Steph

I can't tell you how much I look forward to this linkup every month. I love reading all the recommendations and finding new books to add to my ever growing holds list! Plus I get to share with you all my thoughts on the latest reads and whether or not you should go and pick them up yourself!

So without further delay, here is what I read:

Landline by Rainbow Rowell
I know that not everyone enjoys Rainbow's writing but I happen to be one of the ones that really does. This book in particular I really enjoyed because it deals not with the traditional "falling in love" but rather with staying in love. I personally believe it is much harder to stay in love than it is to fall and I have to say, as someone that has been with the same someone for twelve years now, this book nails it. It's about making the effort, realizing your faults, being willing to adapt and accept the other person for who they are. I loved it. I will be buying it.

A Little Something Different by  Sandy Hall
This was such a cute and quick read. I loved following the different characters in order to get the whole story. Then again I might be a little biased as there was a line from Buffy the Vampire Slayer on page 6 and thus I fell in love with the book immediately. This was pretty much just a "for fun" read as it wasn't too deep and the story was very....You've Got Mail-ish. However I loved the college setup and at different points I could identify with literally each character. If you are looking for a pool side or beach read, I would check this one out!

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
I'm torn on this book. At points I loved it...at points I was just done. I loved Jenny for her optimism in love...but HATED her at other points. It didn't stop me from putting the sequel on hold so I guess I liked it in the end? I dunno....I'm still mad at Lara Jean.

My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland
This was a recommendation from another one of my favorite authors and honestly I loved it. It is very similar to the show iZombie but with a little darker and hopeless type character. I have already downloaded the next books in the series and I can't wait to read them. I know they may not be some people's jam but if you are into zombies and comedy this is a book for you!

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
I am now completely convinced the reason I didn't like Gone Girl was due to hype. I LOVED Dark Places and I have to say I LOVED Sharp Objects. These books are just so dark but yet they keep me sucked in for hours at a time. I finished this one in less than 24 because I just couldn't put it down. I am very concerned as to Gillian's female characteres...so angry and broken inside. I probably shouldn't care so much but as a resident of the state she most often writes about (Missouri) I don't want people to think we are all crazy here!

  1. I read Dark Places and Sharp Objects but I think I ended up liking Dark Places more. I didn't care for Sharp Objects quite as much. I've read Attachments and Fangirl by Rowell but haven't gotten to check out Landline yet. People seem so mixed about whether it was good or not. lol! I really loved To All the Boys I've Loved before I agree that sometimes Lara Jean made me nuts! I will have to check out A Little Something Different, it sounds like something I would really like!

  2. Sharp Objects was by far her most messed up book. So disturbing and gross with the teeth.

I liked Landline. Not as much as E&P or Attachments but more than Fangirl. It was an okay book for me, the time jumping was confusing sometimes and I found them both pretty unlikable and while I don't regret reading it but definitely not my favorite of hers.

  3. I totally agree about the hype over Gone Girl. I enjoyed Sharp Objects, as messed up as it is.
A little something different is on my list purely for the pretty cover - good to hear you enjoyed it! i love when authors mention a favourite book or TV show, makes me love them even more. i never watched buffy though, lol. i haven't read landline yet but it is on my list!

  4. I love love love Rainbow Rowell's books, but Landline was my least favorite. I just couldn't accept the phone. And that's kinda important for the story. Gone Girl was my least favorite Flynn book, and I have to agree with you - those female characters are some messed up chicas!

  5. I'm a little intrigued by the zombie book.

I am not a huge fan of Rainbow Rowell. I liked Eleanor & Park a lot but haven't liked anything since.

I loved all of Flynn's books. I read them in the order they were published and read Gone Girl before the hype (and probably contributed to the hype).

  6. Certainly hype can ruin a book! I'm reading Sharp Objects now. I'm a Rainbow Rowell fan but didn't like Landline as much. I do agree that staying in love is far more difficult than falling in love.

  7. I love Gillian Flynn's books! Sharp Objects was my favorite (after Gone Girl) and I can't wait to see it as a TV show. It's just so creepy! A Little Something Different looks cute! I can't wait for P.S. I Love You.

  11. I like the easy reads. I might have to add Hall and Han to my to-read list. I struggled with the darkness of Flynn's books. After the mind fuckery that was Gone Girl, I was relieved after finishing the other 2. I have several Rowell books on my to-read list.. now just to find the time...

  13. I liked Sharp Objects too. I think they might be turning it into a movie or TV show.

The others all look like good beach reads, especially A Little Something Different.
