My Life in Dogs Pt 2

Big Ryder’s Story

The story of how Ryder came to live with us is a pretty simple story, but you have to know his story along with Miss Bella’s in order to know about the little pups that are now in our lives.
Ryder’s story actually begins with Joe and my cousin Tommy.

My cousin Tommy passed away quite suddenly, leaving his dog Joe without anyone in the world. Joe was an Australian Shepherd and a one man dog, he needed love and he needed a home. My dad told my Aunt that we would take Big Joe, we had the land and we had the love. So Big Joe came to live with us.

Joe may have started off as a one man dog…but after a few weeks in our family, well he was everyone’s dog. He loved us all and we dearly loved him. However he and my dad had a very special relationship. They were always together. They had six wonderful years together before Big Joe passed on from this life.

My dad’s heart was broken, and when a tough guy like that cries…well all of us were hurting after losing our Joe.

A year after Joe, mom thought it was time for a new addition to the family. Daddy needed a dog of his own. He missed Joe terribly…and it was time for a new friend. We decided we would get him a puppy for Father’s Day. It was a long and difficult search. We wanted a pup that looked a lot like Big Joe, we wanted another Aussie. I searched and searched for months and finally by August, I had found him.
It was a Sunday afternoon and my dad had gone blue rock shooting with my husband when I found Ryder. It happened quite by accident while searching Facebook but once I saw him…I knew. I showed his picture to Mom who immediately told me that this was the one and I made the call. We could go and pick him up tonight…in Nebraska…three hours away. Yeah…like we cared!

So once Dad got home we told him that this was his father’s day gift (two months late!) and that we needed to go and get his pup. That was the most exciting drive! The minute we got the puppy and Dad held him and the little guy gave him a kiss…we knew we had done the right thing. Daddy would never stop missing Joe…but he was going to love this little guy just as much.

Ryder was such a good car rider that that is how his name happened. He did so well in the car and still loves to go on car rides. He is affectionate with all of us but he only has eyes for my dad. Best friends for life, they are.

Well Big Ryder is a registered Australian Shepherd; beautiful boy has papers and everything. He’s gorgeous…and of course not fixed. Which brings us to these three….

My Life in Dogs Pt 1

This is a rescue story.

Last fall I was driving to my parents’ house along the gravel road. As per usual there was a big truck going about seventy down the gravel because well…people are idiots on gravel roads. I saw him and I also saw a dog running along the road. Fear gripped my heart and I watched as the truck didn’t slow down and appeared to take the puppy out as it disappeared from my sight. The truck kept on going but I pulled over to see if the puppy was okay. I stepped out of the car and left the door open, not a second later the pup was out of the ditch and into my car. She had not been hit and she sat in my car seat looking at me with the most amazing gold eyes, begging for me to let her stay. I smiled, got in the car and told her that she was going to be okay now. I knew just where to take her. I took her to Miss Krissy’s home for wayward animals…also known as my mom’s house.

I pulled into the driveway and carefully got the pup out, along with my little dog that was riding with me as well. She was confused by this new addition to the car but once we were at my mom’s house she was more intent on getting to the other dogs. Mom had three others at the time. We made our way onto the back deck and I looked over this little lady that had gotten in the car.

She had been on her own for a while. She was scary thin, her bones jutting out and her ribcage very prominent. Her coat was a mess of mud and stickers. However her personality was so mild and meek. She so desperately wanted me to love on her.

I called mom out to the deck and told her, “I’m sorry mom but I just couldn’t leave her…” Of course my mom didn’t mind at all. She just started to love all over the pup. I knew that this little lady had found a home. Mom named her Bella, and she became part of our family. Miss Bella has been a joy and is one of the smartest and fastest dogs anyone could hope for. She’s a border collie and loves to herd. She keeps mom’s horses in line!

Of course when we took Bella in we had no idea what was in store for us just a few months later….when these little ones arrived….

Well hey look, I have a blog!

This poor blog is so neglected right now. I have just had so much going on and really no desire to write it all down. Not to mention that I cannot blog at work and blogging at home has not been happening because we cannot run Hulu and the computer at the same time, Hulu locks up every time and my husband must see “Chicago Fire” !

So basically blogging has been on the back burner and I haven’t done any real writing in about two weeks. However I noticed this week that I felt restless and like my brain was swimming with thoughts and worries and general need to express what is going on in my crazy life. Heck I was even tempted to start working on a new header for my blog and changing what the feel of it is going to be, I am leaning more toward being a mommy/random life moment blogger. Also known as I will write about my baby and all about the crazy things that seem to be happening in my life. I actually have several things that have gone on in the past four weeks and I cannot wait to start writing posts about them! There are things like puppies, a baby shower, fun with friends, and of course, pregnancy madness.

I have been following along with the other blogs but I cannot comment on them while I am at work and the only time I get any reading done is on my lunch break. So I am keeping up with you all and I am sorry I haven’t left any comments! I will be trying to do the blog thing in the morning before work now when there is no TV on and no distractions other than the dogs! (This of course will change when Baby K comes along…however maybe mornings will be my little bit of alone time….or during naps….)

So be looking for some posts for the next coming days, I am going to try and get all of them written and scheduled ahead of time and maybe…just maybe….I will get back into my rhythm again!
