Confessions: Things that Irk Me

I remember Kathy doing a post of things that made her irrationally angry and I decided to come up with a list of my own. Not so much things that make me angry but things that just irk the hell out of me.

1. Dirty socks stuffed in shoes and not put in the laundry

2. Wet Towels thrown on the ground. Ick. Ick. Ick.

3. There is a church that I pass every time I leave my house and their sign is always attempting to be funny or clever and it just really annoys me. The latest? "Have the Donkey and the Elephant let you down? Try the Lamb!" ------I cringe every time I see it.

4. How freaking hard it is to get SnapChat to load the silly filters. Maybe I'm just dumb but it takes forever for it to recognize my face and load the list of filters. Annoying.

5. When people play music in the car while someone else is watching a video or listening to some other form of media. Seriously the car is TOO SMALL A SPACE for all that noise!

6. When one side of the sink is clearly dirty dishes and someone puts their dirty dish in the clean side. Seriously WTF?

7.  When my husband puts work calls on speakerphone so I am forced to listen to the nonsense as well.

8. When people tell me to "Smile! It's not that bad!" Usually it is men that do this too. Why do you do this? Why do you need me to smile all the freaking time? Is it because you are afraid that I'm thinking? Well I am. So leave me alone.

9.  The fact that Hulu plays the same damn commercials every break. Sure it is only a few commercials but the same ones every time? So annoying.

10. The fact that Instagram is changing things up the same way that Facebook did......I legit do not care about stuff that happened three days ago...I want the instant feed. Same way I wanted the "Most Recent" on Facebook. Why is Instagram ruining things?

What Irks You? Anything on my list irk you as well?  Let me know in the comments.

Words of Wisdom: Neil Gaiman

Today I am sharing some words of Neil Gaiman!

I am a recent convert to Gaiman's work but I have devoured several of his novels since accepting him into my life. Also when I find an author that I really like I tend to follow them on social media and I love following Gaiman because his words of wisdom are pretty much epic.

Here's a few:

“Read. Read anything. Read the things they say are good for you, and the things they claim are junk. You’ll find what you need to find. Just read.” Neil Gaiman:

“Fairy tales are more than true – not because they tell us dragons exist but because they tell us dragons can be beaten.” -Neil Gaiman, paraphrasing G.K. Chesterton - Neil Gaiman Explains Why Fairy Tales Are Badass:

1801316_864504970269183_2352771728726034005_o.jpg (678×960):

Neil Gaiman Quote From Stardust ~ Topography by Mulluane:

The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can. -Neil Gaiman:

Pretty awesome right? Do you have any favorite quotes that I might of missed? Share below!

Have a great day Everyone!

Confessions: Running A little late

I confess this post is super late because I just forgot/was tired/ lots of reasons.....

I confess that part of the reason I was tired was because we took Kyra to get her pictures done yesterday and the girl was new and not good with kids and Kyra wasn't having it and we only got one good picture which was kind of good for the wallet but the whole thing was EXHAUSTING.

I confess that I am also tired because I had to make sure that Robert was up and going at 3am this morning so that he could make the drive to St. Louis for work. Just across the state. No big deal.

I confess that also I have the headache from hell because the weather can't make up it's mind. As is apparent in Colorado....Here  it's just really stormy and barometric pressure will be the death of me.

I confess I didn't expect these confessions to come off as whiny but it is what it is.

I also confess that I was surprised by the amount of people that were surprised I had ridden an elephant and a camel....I did not realize that was a rare thing....I've ridden elephants at several places but the camel was at the Renaissance Faire. They have an elephant there too.

I confess this picture of Kyra and my Mom makes me so very happy. This is a moment that I want her to have forever.

That's it for this confession session. Happy Humpday Everyone.

Weekend Recap 3/21

Friday: My parents welcomed some new additions to the farm!

They are super cute and we spent a lot of time holding them. The more you hold them the more they trust you and we want them to like us!

After cuddling the chicks and ducks we headed down to my brother's to drop off some dishes that my mom had picked up for him. Then it was time to hit up Sam's Club and get a few items before heading home. Kyra started getting fussy so I was glad when we finally made it home and it was time for bedtime!

Saturday: It was a pretty productive day. I got a lot of chores done and even got some time on my own! Robert needed to go to help his dad with some house stuff and Kyra decided that she wanted to go with him even though I wasn't going. She actually wanted to go without me! They were gone about 2.5 hours and I spent the time cleaning...and doing my hair....and watching TV old seasons that I hadn't seen of The Amazing Race.  Honestly it wasn't super exciting and I kept expecting to be called saying Kyra was having a fit but she was SO GOOD! I was really proud of her. I hope this means that there will be more times when she will be happy to go with Daddy and let Mommy have some time on her own!

Also I got a VOXBOX from Influenester that contained some awesome products so be on the lookout for a review of the box coming soon!

Sunday: I spent the day reading while Robert binge watched the new season of Daredevil. It was a pretty mellow day all in all. Kyra just wanted to snuggle and cuddle and read her books while I read mine. I will save my book review for the book linkup in a few weeks but I did finish it in one sitting! All in all it was a super mellow weekend which is great because I can feel that this week is probably going to be a little hectic!

How was your weekend? Hope it was a good one!

Five on Friday Instead

1. I am starting to get really hyped about Planet Comicon

They keep announcing more and more amazing guests and I am so excited! Stan Lee, George Takei, Kevin Smith....the list goes on and on. I am thrilled and now I have to start saving up so I can BUY ALL THE THINGS when we are there. I'm thinking it may be an April Wallet Watch in the making. The con is at the end of May so I have some time!

2. Pink nails. For some reason I have really wanted to have light pink nails. No idea why but for some reason it has been calling my name. The only problem is that I actually didn't even ONE light pink polish! I had lots of hot pink or purple-y pink or even orange coral pink but no light pink! So I had to fix that problem and picked up this one called Tickled Pink by Sally Hansen!
Confession: Not my nails. Image Source

3. Hilarious Tunnel Antics. My brother was hanging out yesterday keeping Kyra and I company and this happened. The things we do for her!

4. Speaking of Kyra she has recently developed a love of Peppa Pig. The show is pretty cute and while we were shopping at Target we came across Peppa and her family. We picked it up for her.....only to return later and pick up Peppa's house as well. Yes we spoil her. No I don't regret it because she hasn't stopped playing with it since and she is so cute using her imagination and playing!
She fell asleep like this. Clutching her Peppa Pig House!

5. I love when I pick up a book at the library and the librarians are all like "Oh! What is this?? I need to add it to my list!" It gives me validation that my book choices are good choices.

BTW the book was this one.

16181516

I spotted it at Barnes and Noble and immediately put it on my holds list. I would have bought it immediately but they only had soft cover and I'm a snob because the second one was hardcover and if I get them I want them to match. Also now I get to read it and see if I want to buy it in the first place. #winning

Have a great weekend everyone!

Confessions 3/16

So I confess that I totally skipped out on blogging last week. It was just one of those weeks where I couldn't get it together. There were a variety of reasons that I won't get into but I'm back at it this week and ready to go!

I confess these past few days I have also been dealing with Insomnia. It happens from time to time and when it does it hits hard. I have been up past 4 am more times than I would like to ever be this past week. Not sure what is driving the insomnia but I do know that I am SO over it.

I confess this past weekend was pretty mellow due to insomnia and due to the weather. March is a month of pretty turbulent weather with the season change and my sinuses are super sensitive to the changes. So I took it easy since I spent most of the time nursing a bad headache while dealing with the insomnia mentioned above.

I confess that I am still laughing about this awesome birthday surprise for my brother. We have a running joke in our family about Robert Goulet. My brother would call my Mom up and sing to her in his voice and the joke has just been going around for years now. It just so happened that my parents ran across a picture of him at the thrift store. The best part? It was signed and dedicated to Brandon...which just so happens to be my brother's name. IT. WAS. EPIC.

I confess that I finally used one of my gift cards! I found some stuff I wanted at Sephora and finally used it up! Of course I also spent an extra ten dollars to get the free shipping....I mean I was going to have to pay 6.95 for shipping anyhow so why not spend the ten and get something I want and not pay shipping?? Sound logic if you ask me.

I confess I finally did break into my Coloring Book! It took a couple days to finish this picture because I am crazy picky selective about my color choices. I am really happy with it though!

I confess that I am not good with flowers. However Hyacinth are some of my favorite flowers and so (with permission!) swiped some of my Mom's. I had no idea what color I was getting when I got them but they turned out to be pretty in pink and they smell AMAZING!

So I told you all a couple weeks ago that the neighbors were moving out. Well with pretty much any move out like that you get some stuff that gets left behind. I confess that we totally took some of the leftovers. Hey I haven't seen them in two weeks now and I figured it was all fair game since the landlord put it all on the curb!

I confess that while I really am enjoying this new yoga app I got for my phone what I am really enjoying is the playlists! It just pulls random music and I have to keep stopping to screenshot the song so I can remember it for later! I wish they saved the playlists!

I confess that I am still playing catch up on the Show Us Your Books linkup! I have gotten through quite a few but I'm not done yet! My library holds list is BURSTING.

That's it for me! Be sure to join the linkups and Confess!!!

Also Chris Hemsworth is YUM.

Morning Rituals

Wake up early- I attempt to get up before Kyra so that I can have a little bit of time to myself. Sometimes it is just long enough to have a cup of coffee and sometimes it is long enough for me get my coffee, a couple loads of laundry done, blog posts done, and meditation done.

Meditation- I try to do this in the morning. It makes me feel more relaxed and focused during the day and it helps me to process what I really want to get done during the day.

Silence- I don't turn on music, the TV, or even speak before Kyra gets up if I can help it. I love the silence and it is great for meditation. Mostly however it is just nice to not have to hear the noise of the world.

Bullet Journal- I usually write down what I want to get done the night before but if I think of anything else to add then I add it now. Also I try to prioritize what I think I can actually get done and what absolutely HAS to get done. I am still new to this system but it has really helped me to streamline chores and obligations. Also it is helped me accept that sometimes I'm not going to get anything on the list done that day. Some days are just like that.

Yoga- This doesn't happen every day. However the days that I do get it done I always feel better. I love morning workouts much more than evening ones. There are too many ways to get out of evening workouts. Tired, busy, etc., but I find very little excuses to skip a nice morning session. Plus yoga is quiet and quiet is good because it doesn't wake Kyra up!

Shower/Skin Regimen- I don't always get a shower in the morning but I always take care of my skin. I'm 31, my skin is super important to me (as it should be to everyone!) so I always cleanse, use a serum, followed by moisturizer!

That's it! Basically that is my normal morning unless of course it has been a bad night or if Kyra wakes up early and we immediately jump into breakfast/playtime. (She is either a bouncy ball of energy in the morning or a grumpy kitten.)

Do you have any morning rituals? Are you thinking of starting one? Anything I should add to mine? Let me know in the comments below!

What I Read: Feb 2016

When Did I Get Like This? by Amy Wilson- A mom book that I picked up because I thought the title was funny. I thought I would relate to this mom more and in the first few chapters I did but then she moved on to when her kids were a bit older and I'm not at that point yet. Also she has three children and I only have the one so that was a factor as well. This book was cute at times but when she started talking about the craziness of preschool and applications being harder than college applications well...she kind of lost me. Benefit of being small town I guess is that I don't have to jump through all those hoops but yet I can't help but think that this author would totally judge my child and me for not going through all those hoops.

Just an okay read and definitely just for the mommy/parent crowd.

Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai- This is a super quick read. I think I read it in about an hour. It is set up in poem style and at first I wondered just what I had gotten myself into since it suddenly seemed so short. However this story didn't need a lot of prose to make it a great story and it was a great story. I was immediately drawn in by the characters and once they reached the United States and started facing the daily trials of being different and "outsiders" I really related to them a great deal. I'm Hawaiian in a sea of Middle America White and there were plenty of times that I didn't fit in or that I was sorted out because I looked different.

This is a really beautiful little story and if you have an hour to spare to read it I would highly recommend it.
10770698

Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes- This is the sequel to YOU and I admit I was eagerly awaiting this one to come in at the library. I really enjoyed YOU so I had high expectations for this one. Maybe my expectations were too high. Once again I really enjoyed Joe as a character and the writing is very well done but I found myself getting really bored at times and some of the situations and characters tedious. Then some of the more important parts were over so quickly that I had to reread them again to make sure I didn't actually miss something. The last 100 pages or so captured my attention again and I am wondering if there will be another book after this one now....

Over all I liked the book but not nearly as much as the first. Won't stop me from picking up the next one. (If there is one.)
23492288

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman- I really like Neil Gaiman's work. I'm not much of a fan of Terry Pratchett's however but I tried to give this book a shot. It had all the elements of a book that I would really love but I just couldn't finish it! I kept getting lost over various narrators and tedious tangents that I finally gave up. I'm not normally one to give up on a book and usually will stick with any book to the end, even if it isn't good but I just couldn't with this one. It was ALL OVER THE PLACE. I had no idea what time period we were in from one moment to the next or in fact who was talking at any given period of time. Maybe my brain was just too scattered this month to really focus on it or something but honestly unless you are really driven to read everything these authors write...I'd give this one a miss.

That's it for me this month. Have you read any of these? What were your thoughts? Be sure to join the linkup and share the books you read last month!!
